The first hour of this week’s show was dedicated to our friend and fellow DJ Elroy Boogie, who passed away on Sunday, August 18, at the all-too-young age of 27 after losing a battle with cancer. I said a few words in his memory and played an uptempo funk/disco/dance mix called Superdooper that he made last year. I mostly knew Roy through friends, but, as he did with most people, he left an indelible impression on me with his his good nature, his jokes and his unforgetable smile.

King Elroy Boogie, we will miss you dearly, but we will never ever forget. Thank you for being a part of all of our lives.

The show also included an interview with Amsterdam producer/DJ/musician Kid Sublime, who has been making and performing exceptional music soul, house, broken beat, hip-hop (among others) for years. He was a founding member of Rednose Distrikt, has put out numerous releases for labels like Kindred Spirits and DopenessGalore.

In the interview, we talked about his musical history, his basement studio, Detroit techno in Amsterdam, the past and future of instrumentation in music, his work with artists like Lady Alma, Declaime and Georgia Anne Muldrow and more. Listen to the interview and a mini mix of some of Kid Sublime’s music, including a track from his forthcoming EP on DopenessGalore:

We also featured new music from D Rose + Khimmy J (Houston), Nathan Adams + DJ Spinna (UK + BK), Brainpower + PMD (Amsterdam + NYC), D-Felic (The Hague), Hardsoul + Baggi Begovic (Amsterdam + Rotterdam) and EnaWadan + Atjazz (South Africa + UK).
