{"id":3356,"date":"2009-07-18T04:21:02","date_gmt":"2009-07-18T08:21:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.buhbomp.com\/updates\/?p=3356"},"modified":"2009-07-18T12:16:45","modified_gmt":"2009-07-18T16:16:45","slug":"the-giku-experience-mix-on-soulkomplex-radio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.buhbomp.com\/updates\/?p=3356","title":{"rendered":"The GiKu Experience Mix on Soulkomplex Radio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/thegikuexperience\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.buhbomp.com\/updates\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/giku.jpg\" alt=\"The GiKu Experience\" title=\"The GiKu Experience\" width=\"425\" height=\"393\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3358\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.buhbomp.com\/updates\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/giku.jpg 425w, https:\/\/www.buhbomp.com\/updates\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/giku-200x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I had the pleasure of meeting <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/gibrilkuyateh\" >Gibril Kuyateh<\/a>, aka <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/thegikuexperience\" >The GiKu Experience<\/a>, last week in Brooklyn and immediately caught good vibes. <strong>Gibril<\/strong> is a member of <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/afromosaicsoul\" >AfroMosaicSoul<\/a>, the Brooklyn-based dance and music collective that hosts the infamous <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/teapartymusic\" >Libation<\/a> parties at the Sullivan Room in the Village.<\/p>\n<p>A few days after I met him, <strong>Gibril<\/strong> sent me a mix he did recently for <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/soulkomplexradioshow\" >Soulkomplex Radio<\/a> in Germany, and I really wanted to share it here. It&#8217;s rich with deep, soulful African-inspired compositions that made for a perfect soundtrack to my weekend:<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s how he describes the mix:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The goal with this mix was to create a visceral connection that transported the listener to Africa.  Talks with <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/djsosue\" >DJ Sosue<\/a> out of Germany were the inspiration. She produced this dope track along with <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.delesosimi.org\" >Dele Sosimi<\/a> (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fela_Kuti\" >Fela<\/a>&#8216;s keyboard player) called <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=lTxoSMZQOaE\" >Wahala Identity Mix<\/a> &#8230; that set the tone when i re-mixed (aka <strong>re-experienced<\/strong>) the Wahala track blending it with &#8220;Angel Song&#8221; ft. <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/joshfromblaze\" >Josh from Blaze<\/a>. At that time, she asked me to do a guest mix for <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.soulkomplex.de\/radioshow.htm\" >Soulkomplex<\/a>. The newest form of African American social dance has risen from the underground. The vibe is right every time.
