Lil Tiger

Just in time for the run up to Turkey Day, here’s our latest Welfare handout of musical treats to help put some pep in your steps as you’re elbowing your way to the turkey aisle at the supermarket.

dj lil tiger | bird feed …

SJOB Movement “Love Affair”
Some Nigeria disco funk to loosen up your feets.

Roy Ayer’s “I Am Your Mind Part 2 (Sal’s Nostalgia Edit)
Nice treatment by the man Sal Paradise. Peep more of his edits at his blog.

Roll Deep “Do Me Wrong”
I love me some Roll Deep, the East London crew that brought the world Dizzee and Wiley. This is a hot uptempo little club joint that’s fun as hell.

Serani “Crying For Peace”
Consciousness from the man Serani of “No Games” and “Dying” fame. On the Merge riddim. Love this tune.

Peter Ram “Tight”
This is my mid-tempo soca jam of the moment. Been digging Peter Ram‘s Bajan sounds for a minute now.

cashless | Super Disco Backpack Rap Braekz4dayz

Ron Browz – “Jumpin”
Autotune, love it or hate it, it’s not going anywhere for a while, at least if Ron Browz has anything to say about it. Kanye, T-Pain, Lil Wayne... Browz is the new king of autotune and unless you’re willing to implant an Antares VST in your brain, you ain’t putting autotune to more use than Browz. I’m not sure if dude has a real voice at all.

Q-Tip – “Move”
I know. I’m just as surprised as you are. I got tired of listening to the new authorities on “real hip hop.” You know the ones. They always recommend one bland backpack rap lp after another. They lost me somewhere along the road. I’m not carrying the flag any longer. I’m now somewhere between trying to see young ladies “Pop it 4 pimp” at the knucklehead 18 & up club and getting my grown and sexy on with people who’s outfit at the club cost more than my rent. Somehow “Move” is exactly where I’m at.

Lil Wayne – “Mrs. Officer (Gregg Nyce/Estelle refix)”
I don’t know what to tell you. The G&S set goes crazy for this blend and so do I. So there.
(**EDITOR’S NOTE: Cashless accidentally put the original version of this tune instead of the refix in his zip file. He’s spinning right now, but will sort all that out afterward, so stay tuned for the correct version soon)

**Update of the update** The corrected version is now located below.

Trina feat Killer Mike – “Look back at me”
I’m dropping a recurrent here. Nothing new or anything. I’m really digging the intermingled screwed adlibs, but what really makes me flip is seeing women act out the lyrics on the dancefloor. This song is so nasty that it makes ME blush.

Rihanna – “Disturbia (Emynd’s Finally Blend)”
Outside of her looks, I haven’t been feeling much Rihanna lately. That doesn’t mean that her output can’t be salvaged. Emynd of CrossfadedBacon.com and Nolabounce.com comes strong to save what’s normally an unlistenable cut.

download: Dave, drop a load on em…

Addendum: Lil Wayne – “Mrs. Officer (Gregg Nyce/Estelle refix)

jdfellin myself

Platinum Pied Pipers – “Try Me”
I like this song and have always dug their production

Meshell N’degecocello – “Hot Night”
Same here.  One song with Talib that I can actually enjoy

Ming and FS – “Kings County”
A great tribute to a great borough.

Raphael Saadiq – “Get Involved (Remix)”
I used to play this record all the time, and this remix definitely delivers.

Self Scientific “The Return”
Strap on your back pack for this underground classic.

Download Here.

———-

empanadamn | Starvin’ like Marvin…

DJ Yoda “Food” (Feat. Edan)
A cutty & paste ode to vittles (tender if you please).

Weird Al “Eat It”
This 110% grade A classic helped shape my sense of humor as a child (and grown-ass man of today).

Goodie MOB “Soul Food”
“FUCK CHRIS DARDEN! FUCK MARSHA CLARK!”

AMG “Jiggable Pie”
2 (big) slices plaese.

Weird Al “Fat”
“Yo, Ding-Dong, man. Ding-Dong, yo.”

Bonus *eat (Take a nap. Wake up and do it all over again)
Fat Boys “All You Can Eat”

Yes, I have eaten at this location.

Download: Grace.

Caribbean People Time. We’re still recovering from Halloween and Day of the Dead activities, and we’re a little distracted by this whole election thing creeping up on us, so excuse the tardiness once again. Better late than never. Btw, today’s handout gladly features the inaugural 5ives contribution from JD, and JD always got heat, so that’s a good thing.

dj lil tiger | blake gideon hurt my feelings …

Kanye “Love Lockdown (Nu Era mix)”
Would this be considered a bruk mash? Not sure who is ultimately responsible for this one, but I dig it on a weird level. Kanye over a spacy, techy broken track by Nu Era, aka Marc Mac of 4hero

Busy Signal “I Fucked Your Girl”
Yeah, you know, for giggles and shits and what not.

Donae’o “African Warrior”
Damn Brits, always making me feel the wrath of the latte pass. Not new, but recently exposed to me. This UK Funky shit is my shit. Donae’o was a fave of mine back when I first started getting into UKG, so I dig that he’s on this scene.

H-Town All-Stars “Obama ’08″
Bun, Chamilli, Paul Wall, Cory Mo, Trae. Oh, and some verbiage from our next president. Can’t go wrong. Bump this on the way to the polls, if you haven’t already gotten your early vote on. HOUSTON STAND THE FUCK UP.

Lauryn Hill “Want You Around (Probe DMS remix)”
From the vaults. Probe is one of NY’s best kept secrets. If you get a chance to catch him spin, you won’t be disappointed. And he got the chops on the production side. Believe it.

download: Hold that.

jd | Come get it like you know you want it ®

O.C. Smith – “Sounds of Goodbye”
My vinyl rip and dedication to Bush.   See ya later!

Markus Enochson – “What About Us”
A stellar Brandy rework.   This is an oldie but a goodie.

Beck – “Dirty Dirty”
Also quite old, but never leaves the crates.  This is off of the remix and b-sides disc.

Archie Bell & The Drells – “Tighten Up” (Bobby LaBeat Re-work)
You can pretty much catch me never playing anything resembling bmore club, but this song is significant for a few reasons.  The first being that it is just a beast of a song, the remix kept the essence of the original and of course, Archie and his Drells are from Texas.

Bjork – “Who Is It” (Vitalic Mix)
I just really like this remix.    So jamming.

download: Take that, take that.

———-

empanadamn | For the club | Serato ready

Aidonia “Flyin’ Dagger”
Aidonia’s voice kinda reminds me of Vybz Kartel with less gumption. Still, he posses a flow that can ride a range of sounds. This track, on the Sky Daggering riddim, is on the uptempo tip for your faster sets.

Beyoncé “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)”
One for the ladies, this one picks up where “Get Me Bodied” left off. It’s produced by Darkchild, but sounds like a Swizzy joint with its chunkyness and jump. The clencher for me was watching the video. BOING!

Cory Gunz “Get Right Tonight” (Feat. Ryan Leslie)
I like this song because dude’s name is “Cory Gunz” and he’s from the Bronx. What’s more is that Ryan Leslie’s on the beat. Some midtempo filler.

Jazzanova “I Can See” (Feat. Ben Westbeech)
Germany’s Jazzanova returns with their 2nd full length studio album “Of All The Things”. With each release they seem to do something different, which I can appreciate. One of my favorite cuts, “I Can See” features Ben Westbeech, a soulful British bloke sangs, with ze Germans rock the new-old soul sound filled with strings, horns and xylophone.

T-Pain “Freeze” (Feat. Chris Brown)
A poppy joint for the club with a good balance of drum knock & synth. It has a couple of beatbox breakdowns and lacks catchy hook which kinda kills its momentum for a major tune.

download: Choose or Lose

UPDATE: Lil Tiger will be holding down the early set tonight from 10p-12a. NO COVER BEFORE MIDNIGHT, so be sure to get there early and say what’s up.

It’s the middle of the month, and with the economy still in the shitter and getting shittier by the day, it’s time for another handout from the generous souls here at buhbOmp HQ. And like all good bureaucracies charged with overseeing the well-being of its needy constituents, we’re a day late and a DJ short. While Cashless is in Japón brokering peace between the Jamaicans and Japanese, Empanadamn and Lil Tiger got the goods to hold you over ’til the first rolls back around. Try not to spend it all in one place:

empanadamn | Halloween treats

Bernard Herrmann “Opening Credits” of Psycho
Herrmann is a big dude in film scoring, serving up sounds of the scary, sinister, and suspense. From the classic Psycho, DJ Scratch used this composition in Busta Rhymes’ “Gimme Some More”

Castlevania “Stage One”
The first level ditty to one of my most favoritest video games ever in the whole wide world. Simon Belmont got whip appeal.

Mike Oldfield “Tubular Bells”
Virgin Records first official release that topped the charts for some time in the UK. The album, mostly instrumental, implemented a lot of sounds never recorded on such a successful release. The title track was also popularized by the film The Exorcist.

Mötley Crüe “Shout At The Devil”
As a child, this song kinda scared the shit out of me, being about yellin’ at the devil and all. But my brother was jammin this, so I guess it was OK. Out of all the Crüe, I liked Mick Mars because he looked like a short Alice Cooper. Factoid: Vince Neil is part Mexican. Thanks to Guitar Hero, people everywhere now rejoice in Satan and don’t even realize it, so nothing out of the ordinary.

RJD2 “The Horror”
I’m not a big fan of the dude, but RJD2′s got a couple of bangers. This is one makes me envision a montage for 70s slasher flick for a diabolical doctor dude who’s really not a doctor, but a school nurse assistant who’s not quite right.

*Bonus bOmp*
DJ Qbert “Alcohol Razorblade Slide”
My favorite track and scene from “Wave Twisters”. The line, “he separated the skull and masturbated in front of it,” is a sound-bite referencing Jeffrey Dahmer (I think)

download: Candy with a razorblade in it. Shhh.

dj lil tiger | get a job, grouch!

H.I.S.D “Break of Dawn”
On of my favorite tunes from the talented Hueston Independent Spit District crew making moves in my hometown. Off their dope Summer Sessions album.

Solange f. Q-Tip “Sandcastle Disco (Remix)”
Because I never tire with showing Houston love, here’s another Space City product with some strong drums and a feel-good vibe. Solange showing she can hold her own.

Monareta “Me Voy Pal Mar”
I’m loving the dub/electronic flare and the nice edits in this tune from this Bogotá duo. Colombia holding it down.

Aretha Franklin “Jump To It (Prince Klassen Young Professional Re-Edit)”
Killer rework straight out the heart of Texas. Austin’s Prince Klassen def keeping the parties movin’.

Jermaine Jackson “Erucu”
Since we’re taking it back a bit, here’s a raw disco classic that should bring out the beast in you.

[[ GREEN STREETS ALBUM RELEASE PARTY ]]

1-4a Afterparty (dancing/drinking etc) with DJs Katy + Lil Tiger + Treats spinning many styles

/// MAIN EVENT: 10p-1a ///

UNEMPLOYABLE NYC will host an event where art and music collide. With the release of the new album “Green Streets” from HANDINHAND, the DJ/production/song-writing duo of Mike Genato & Katy Walker, break new ground. Veteran producer, Mike Genato, (Mathematics, Peter Hadar) and music composer for TV and film has been releasing music for over 10 years and Katy has been DJing for equally as long. The event allows them to showcase music from the album as well as the singers and artists featured on the project.

YADIRA BROWN who wrote and performed “Sweet Relief” on the album, is an Austin-based singer/songwriter whose music mixes electronic production with the singer’s warm, powerful voice and passionate lyrics to produce a unique, mature sound that stands completely on its own. In the past she appeared on the Living Legends (the Grouch) and Bus Drivers albums. Leaving underground hip-hop behind in order to pursue a more enlightened, feminine and personal sound, Yadira began writing new material and performing regularly in Austin and surrounding areas. This is her first NYC performance. DEE TEAGUE will also perform “Free like Me” from the album as well as HandinHand’s re-imagining of the Gil-Scott Heron song, “Superman” (in this case “Superwoman” which has been popular among DJs). Singer/song-writer, IRENE MERRING will perform the powerful album opener, “Time Will Tell”. A HANDINHAND DJ set will also feature live vocals from Irene Merring.

Every 1st and 15th of the month (so grab your welfare checks and come on) the dudes at buhbOmp and selected guest selectors (redundant?) present the top 5 cuts they/we are feeling at the moment. We’re popping this cherry today (albeit a few hours late) with buhbOmp’s own Cashless, Empanadamn and the Captain of this ship, Lil Tiger. So without further adoodoo, we present the first installment of Welfare.

—————————————————–

Jef Cashless | I have noodling tendencies while djing

Peedi Crakk – More Towels
As you can tell from previous posts, been feeling Peedi for a minute and this one’s the hottest banger since “Take me home.” Obviously, I’m not the only one feeling it. I won’t include this cut in my download package since you can download this tune from Empanadamn’s list.

T-Pain feat Lil Wayne – I can’t Believe it (Dj Illo Bass Mix)
This song goes hard in the clurb plain jane, but up the bpm’s to 114 and add some 808 bottom and the vibe changes from G&S to ass and titties.

Big Chief feat Jim Jones – My Swagg
The steady stream of Dallas artists blowing up seemingly outta nowhere and taking over the southern rap scene continues with Big Chief. This time with none other than the kufi-slapping cappo of the Dipset Skull Gang, Jimmy Jones.

T.I. et al – Swagger Like Us (Cobra Krames remix)
Sick of playing the OG? Well here you go.

Busy Signal – Strappings
Not sure of the riddim, but this is a must have for me. %100 rinse worthy! Holla at it!

download: Get you some…

empanadamn | For the club | Serato ready with cue-points

Bramma – It’s Whatever (Day Rave Riddim) download
Hollow-y / driving riddim x gruff / ghostly sounding vocals = Dancehalloween?

Colby O’ Donis – Natural High (Feat. T-Pain) download
Dude looks like he rolls with Lee Hotti n’ ‘em, but this is a pretty good pop tune with some bass appeal and T-Pain hitting switches.

DJ Felli Fell – Feel It (Feat. Sean Paul, T-Pain, Flo-Rida & Pitbull) download
Song should be huge. It’s got a full club feel with a full cast of your usual suspects for uptempo club bangerz.

Jadakiss – By My Side (Feat. Ne-Yo) download
As much as I hate the term “swagger”, Jada is one dude truly embodies it vocally. It’s nice he threw the ladies a bone joining forces with one of my favorite new R&B dudes. I predict big things for Jada.

Peedi Crakk – More Towels download
Great mid-tempo party track with a dash of funk that gives us a break from all the either slowed or fast synthy beats.

—————————————————–

dj lil tiger | 5 random-ass tunes that are doing it for me right now

Stiffed – What You Gon’ Do
lead tune off Sex Sells ep. Early stuff from Santogold.

Raphael Saadiq – Big Easy
off his new The Way I See It lp.

Café Tacuba – De Acuerdo
off their latest album, SiNo. This group just makes me feel happy as shit.

The Lo – Lumdi (La)
latest Camp Lo hottness

Q-Tip – Gettin’ Up
off his forthcoming The Renaissance solo lp. Saw him perform this live at Rock the Bells and it sounded superb.

zipped up for you downloading pleasure
